The Detroit Tigers have brought back reliever Jose Valverde, signing him to a one-year contract.
Valverde, who will report to the Major League team on Wednesday, will immediately be the team's closer.
"I'm ready to pitch," Valverde said. "I feel good. The last couple of days I threw in Lakeland, I threw 96 [mph], 97, a couple times 98."
He was Detroit's closer the past three years, but the team was prepared to let him leave as a free agent after he faltered during the 2012 postseason.
The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to terms on a minor league deal with Kip Wells.
Wells held a private workout for the Angels on Friday.
Wells, 35, is 69-103 with a 4.71 ERA in 12 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox and seven other clubs.
Veteran outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has agreed to join the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, according to an MLB.com report on Thursday.
Guerrero, 38, last played in the Major Leagues in 2011, when he logged a .290 average with 13 homers and 63 RBIs in 145 contests for the Orioles.
